Evidenced Resources for Osteoporosis

DXA reporting

Introduction:

Two resources (links below) to improve quality and understanding of DXA scans, and patient experience

  • Gold Standard DXA reporting template to be used by DXA reporters when reporting DXA scans
  • Recommendations to improve understanding of DXA scans, produced from the INDEX consensus study for  DXA providers

These resources were developed as part of the INDEX study at Keele University. The INDEX study explored patient and healthcare professional understanding about bone density scans. Each resource was developed to address common gaps in patient and health professional understanding about bone density scans.

Many of these documents are included in the Royal Osteoporosis Society’s “Guideline for the provision of a clinical bone densitometry service” ros-bone-densitometry-service-guidelines-august-2025.pdf.
